Carlos García Grados

Carlos García Grados holds a Diploma in Nursing from the University of Extremadura, a Degree in Anthropology from the Autonomous University of Madrid, a PhD in Feminist and Gender Studies from the University of the Basque Country/EHU (2019) and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the UPV/EHU (“Margarita Salas” Grant 2021 funded by the European Union-Next Generation EU through the Ministry of Universities).
His main line of research has revolved around functional diversity, gender, the body and sensory perception. His doctoral thesis, entitled “The lines of Goalball: tracings for the (re)construction of gendered bodies with visual (dis)ability”, is an ethnography of the co-emergence of blind and sighted bodies, as well as men and women, through the practice of a specific sport for blind people. Currently, his interests lie in a second line of research focusing on the intersection between Disability Studies and Animal Studies to explore the relationship between dogs and blind people.
Recent publications include “Participant perception as a feminist methodological tool: An application to gender studies” (AIBR, 2017), “¿Incorporar, encarnar, encorporar y/o corporear?” (with Olatz González Abrisketa in Etnografías feministas. A look at the 21st century from Basque anthropology. Bellaterra, 2018) and “Identidades transespecíficas: relaciones humano-cánidos más allá de la ensoñación humanista (with Olatz González Abrisketa and Iñigo Galzacorta. Editorial de la Universidad del País Vasco/EHU, in press).
