Francisco Seijo

Francisco Seijo is Professor of Environmental Policy Practice at the School of Public and Global Affairs at Instituto de Empresa. His research focuses on change in coupled pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial human and natural systems from an interdisciplinary and applied perspective and in relation to adaptation and mitigation of global environmental change factors. His field experience includes projects in Spain, Morocco, Argentina and China. He collaborates with research groups affiliated to the UAH, CSIC, UPO and UPV.
His past and current lines of research are as follows: human dimension of the global fire cycle and GHG emissions from biomass burning; indigenous and local knowledge/traditional ecological knowledge; conflict in Biosphere Reserves and protected natural areas; forest restoration and fire management; management of nature-based solutions to climate change (carbon sequestration through forest ecosystems); rural abandonment and forest transition dynamics; chestnut forest ecosystems; Mediterranean spruce forest ecosystems; impacts between climate change, land use change, mega-fires and extreme forest fires; energy security and energy transition in the EU context and corporate social responsibility; environmental political theory and political and ideological evolution of the environmental movement.
