Iván López

Iván López is a university lecturer in the Department of Sociology – Department of Psychology and Sociology – at the University of Zaragoza. He is specialised in social research methods and techniques, and has researched mainly in the field of socio-environmental conflicts and social movements. He also has publications of a theoretical nature, starting with his doctoral thesis on sustainability and sustainable development.
More specifically, his intellectual interest and research experience is largely focused on climate change (CC), or rather global environmental change (GEC). Research in these areas has resulted in scientific articles on protected natural areas (National Parks and others) and the impact of CC on them, the analysis of public perception or opinion on CC (and socio-environmental problems), the design of socio-environmental indicators for monitoring CC, the dilemmas of the population between economic development and conservation of the natural environment (particularly regarding local tourism), governance and public participation, and urban mobility.
More recently, he has expanded his research scope with projects aimed at the analysis of fuel poverty (design of survey processes and analysis of the results, both at national and local level, or qualitative research through household interviews). He holds a PhD in Analysis and Evaluation of Political and Social Processes – Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. 2013, he is part of the research group on society, creativity and uncertainty, and has a six-year research period. He has spent time at several universities, including Université de Toulouse; Université de Sciences et Technologies, Lille; Universidad Nacional de San Luis, Villa Mercedez, Argentina, and the Office of the Historian of the City of Old Havana, Cuba.
