José Pinto Galaz

Social anthropologist and student in the Master in Sociocultural Anthropology at the University of Chile. He collaborates with the research nucleus “Especulatorio sobre la tecnociencia y los biomateriales” of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Chile.
He has been a FONDECYT Regular grantee, “Envejecimiento y longevidad. Ethnographic study of nonagenarians and centenarians in Chile” with his undergraduate thesis “Uses of health technologies of elderly people of the fourth age in the National Health Program for the Elderly” (2018) and of the “Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund” (SYLFF) of the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research (2022) in the framework of his Master’s degree.
Researcher of the interdisciplinary project “The anti-inflammatory effect present in a group of medicinal herbs allows the identification of genes related to the phenotype by homology” of the ABCVITAL Centre of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology (INTA), University of Chile (2020-2022). In addition, he has been part of the winning team of the “National Public Science Competition: for the development of regional public spaces for the dissemination and socialisation of knowledge 2021” (Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation of Chile), through the project “Tagua Ethnobotanical Garden” (2021-2022) that seeks to co-produce and disseminate interdisciplinary knowledge about the native flora of San Vicente de Tagua (O’Higgins Region, Chile). His interests are in ethnobotany, science, technology and society studies and viticulture.
