ARTEKOM, Art for the energy transition. Communication and awareness-raising strategies on the Bizkaia campus. Energia Ekologikoaren Trantsiziorako Artea eta Komunikazioa, is an interdisciplinary research project in the field of art and communication for an ecological energy transition. It is framed within the Campus Bizia Lab (CBL) Programme of the Directorate of Sustainability/Iraunkortasunaren arloko zuzendaritza, of the Vice-Rectorate for Scientific and Social Development and Transfer of the University of the Basque Country/ Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (Planet i3, Sustainable Development Goals-ODS). Having started with the 2018 call for proposals, its continuity has been approved up to the present.

The team is currently made up of 20 people; students, non-teaching staff and teaching staff from the faculties of Fine Arts and Social Sciences and Communication. We are related to other UPV/EHU research groups such as EKOPOL (IT1365-19, Group A), Energy Transition and Democracy (TRADENER) and the Basque Center for Climate Change (BC3); all projects in coordination with activists and researchers from Ekologistak Martxan and Ingeniería Sin Fronteras País Vasco.

The objective is to constitute an open and participatory forum for reflection, experimentation and positive action towards the ecological energy transition from different perspectives, based on a critical stance towards economic policy models and the values established by contemporary consumer society. Mainly linked to the university community, the main lines of action are aimed at the design and implementation of awareness and communication strategies through artistic actions and the curricular review for the introduction of new teaching strategies framed in the EHU Agenda 2030 Plan.

ARTEKOM will collaborate in the activities organised through the research project SOCIO-ECOS. Building a sustainable society. Mobilisation, participation and management of socio-ecological practices and to learn about the results derived from its development. In addition, one of the participants in ARTEKOM is a member of the SOCIO-ECOS team, which facilitates the synergy between the two projects.
